JKPCC seeks status of implementation of ‘Mission LiFE’

Srinagar, May 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) has sought action taken details and status of implementation of ‘Mission LiFE’ from the Directors of School Education of both regions.
The committee in this regard has sought details regarding the use of cloth bags in schools, declaration of school premises as plastic free campus, activating eco-clubs to undertake take awareness campaigns, use of color coded bins in schools for waste segregation and setting up of book bank in schools.
Officials at Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has accordingly sought details from the respective Chief Education Officers in this regard.
Pertinently, the ‘Mission LiFE—Lifestyle for Environment’ was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year and is focused on bringing about behavioral changes for combating climate change.
The official at DSEK said, “With a view to pan-lndia advocacy and awareness about LiFE, a mass mobilization drive is being initiated in the month of May as a run-up to World Environment Day on June-05. The theme for world Environment day 2024 is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution.”
It also said that in this background, he was directed to request CEOs of Kashmir region to disseminate the guidelines for activities in schools in the month of May that would engage school children and sensitize thcm about the impact that behaviors can have on the environment.
“In order to keep the campaign focused on LiFE, it would be necessary to use the logo of Mission LiFE for each event of the campaign,” the official said.
