Srinagar, Jun 5: The residents of Hari Parigam area of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded deputation of permanent doctor at the Primary Health Care (PHC).
Locals from Hari Parigam Awantipora said that the PHC building in their area had been lying defunct for the last six years and the existing primary health facility was running out of rented accommodation, however, it was shifted to new building recently.
They said that a doctor has been deployed, who remains present at the hospital only once in a week but that isn’t enough to cater the huge population of the area.
The locals said the hospital now has good space and can have testing facilities available but there is a dearth of staff at the hospital, which pushed the local populace to the wall.
They further added that there is no permanent doctor at the hospital as of now for most of the days only immunization and first aid facilities are being provided to the locals.
Mohammad Sultan, a local resident said that they are thankful to the government for constructing a new building for the hospital but without manpower and resources it is of no use.
He said that spending crores in absence of staff, especially doctors is of no use and there won’t be any benefit for the patients.
Locals urged the higher ups to depute a male and female doctor at the hospital so that locals will not be forced to face hardships.
They said they have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They have sought attention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Director Health Services Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
