Growing population, growing challenges

Achan, a dumping site in Srinagar area has always remained in the news with the local inhabitants demanding shifting of the site as the local populace, living close to the site have been complaining of health issues, saying that the foul smell emanates from the spot, which is pushing them to the wall. However, the government had claimed to have taken several measures for decomposing of the waste and other related issues, but the people continue to face immense hardships as the issue according to them has not been resolved completely yet. Such is the situation that the people living close to the site are not being even visited by their relatives due to the foul smell emanating from the site, therefore, putting a huge responsibility on the shoulders of the administration to take immediate measures in this regard. One fails to understand why the concerned authorities have so far failed to take concrete measures in this regard and ensure a proper solid waste management in place to put an end to the sufferings of people. In the days of summers, the situation gets worse in the area as the foul smell emanates almost round-the-clock in the residential locality, which leaves the dwellers there to lurch at large. In order to put an end to the sufferings of the common masses, the concerned authorities need to take immediate measures to ensure proper solid waste management so that the issues being faced by the local residents there will come to an end and they could heave a sigh of relief.
