Ganderbal, Jul 11: Residents of Rayil and the surrounding areas of Gund in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district here have expressed serious concerns over the supply of unfiltered drinking water by the Jal Shakti Department, which they claim is leading to the spread of various diseases.
The locals said the main source of drinking water for these areas is from Shaajmarg and Nadpati, where several water supply schemes are operational.
However, the locals claimed that there is no filtration plant in place, resulting in the supplying of unfiltered and impure water to them.
“This issue is exacerbated by the presence of a few water reservoirs in Nadpati area, from which water is directly supplied through pipes without any filtration process,” they said.
“The water we are being supplied is unfiltered and impure, and it is causing health problems in our community,” said a local resident. “We appeal to the District Commissioner of Ganderbal and the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to urgently address this matter,” he added.
In response to these concerns, an official said that the issues being faced by the residents will be addressed soon.
“Our new water filtration plant is ready and will be commissioned in one month. Once the plant is operational, the residents will receive filtered water,” he stated.
