Shopian, Jul 6: The District Magistrate, Shopian, has imposed a complete ban on bursting of firecrackers after 10:00 PM across the district, citing concerns over public safety, health hazards, noise pollution and security considerations.
The administration in an order said bursting of firecrackers and fireworks during late-night hours has emerged as a serious concern, causing panic among residents, disturbing public tranquillity and creating confusion during anti-terror operations carried out by security forces.
The order states that high-intensity noise generated by firecrackers adversely affects elderly persons, infants, patients and students besides contributing to respiratory ailments, cardiovascular complications and sleep deprivation. It further notes that sudden explosions during night hours can hamper the operational efficiency and alertness of security personnel deployed in the district.
In view of these concerns, the District Magistrate has prohibited the bursting of all kinds of fireworks, including aerial fireworks and series crackers (laris), by any person within the territorial limits of Shopian district after 10:00 PM.
The order has come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in operation for a period of two months unless withdrawn earlier or extended through a subsequent order. The administration said the order has been issued ex-parte considering the emergent nature of the situation and is addressed to the general public.
The District Magistrate warned that any person violating the order shall be liable for action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, besides other relevant provisions of law. The order will be widely publicized through print and electronic media and displayed at government offices across the district for public information. [KNT]
