Bhaderwah, Aug 3: An Information, Education and Communication (IEC) programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) was successfully organised on Monday at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School here.
Spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with line departments, the event aimed to sensitise students to the devastating impacts of substance abuse while encouraging them to embrace disciplined, healthy and drug-free lifestyles.
Addressing the gathering, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Shahnawaz Ahmad underscored that true success stems from hard work, character and dedication.
“Youth are the backbone of our nation. Stay focused on your academic pursuits, set meaningful goals and uphold high moral values,” Ahmad urged the students advising them to steer clear of drugs and social evils to bring laurels to their families, teachers and society.
Delivering a medical perspective, Community Health Officer Dr. Toufeeq Aslam detailed the severe physical, psychological and social consequences associated with drug dependency. He appealed to the young audience to make informed, responsible choices and act as active change-makers in building a drug-free community.
School Principal Mohd. Farooq Khan emphasized the importance of holistic development through extracurricular engagement. He noted that active participation in sports and cultural activities fosters mental and physical well-being, keeping students resilient against negative peer pressures.
The collaborative event drew enthusiastic participation from officials and representatives spanning the Departments of Education, Social Welfare, Health, JKNRLM and Police alongside the school faculty and hundreds of girl students.
