Bandipora, Oct 14: The residents of Boinaar-Nunbal village in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district Thursday complained that the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to make the installed transformer functional in their area as they are still being forced to reel under darkness in absence of electricity since last seven decades.
The villagers said that the authorities in the PDD department had installed the transformer in their village almost one and a half year ago but has failed to make it functional since then.
According to locals the village comprising more than 60 families, situated only a few kilometers away from the district headquarters, has been without electricity for the last seven decades.
“Once we informed the government of our concerns,” Abdul Gani (45), a local said, adding that the transformer was installed one and a half-year-ago but has not been made functional, which expresses the negligence of the concerned authorities.
“It seems that since India became independent, only the transformer has come to us without electricity,” another resident Khursheed Ahmad, adding that the students of these villages are forced to use candles to prepare for their exams.
Ahmad said that the government should listen to “our woes and provide us with electricity at an earliest.”
Meanwhile, villagers urged the LT Governor led administration to look into the matter as early as possible and solve the power crises in the village.
