Anantnag Mar 28: Dozens of schools in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are without teachers affecting students admitted in the schools.
Official sources said that dozens of schools in Anantnag are without teachers because of which students enrolled in these institutions are facing a lot of problems.
They said that Government Higher Secondary School Soaf Anantnag which was upgraded from High School to Higher Secondary in 2007 is one such case where the problem exists.
Over 400 students are admitted in the above school but there is no teacher to teach Mathematics, Environmental Science and English, sources said.
The school, according to them, is without a Principal for the last two years and a senior lecturer has been assigned charge to manage day-to-day affairs.
Similarly, the principal’s post has not been filled in Government Higher Secondary Khiram for the last five years and at present a senior lecturer is running administrative affairs of the school.
Besides, positions of a few lecturers, teachers and masters are vacant due to which students are suffering.
They added that only a few subjects are being taught by permanent lecturers while the rest are being managed through academic arrangement like teachers meant to teach secondary classes have been assigned additional duties to teach 11th and 12th standard.
Similarly, around 10 lecturers and many posts are vacant, sources said.
Chief Education Officer Anantnag Mohammad Shareef confirmed that there was shortage of teachers in several schools and said 309 teachers have been deputed to schools lacking teachers a day ago.
He said that one more list of teachers has been prepared and it will be issued on Tuesday so that there won’t be a shortage of teachers in any school and students won’t suffer anymore.
